Otodectes cynotis also
known as, the "Ear Mite".

The ear mite infests the
external ear canal
& adjacent skin of cats
& other animals.
The blue arrow shows two
ear mites. The female
is on the top & the male
is on the bottom.

Symptoms of an
infestation are:
Intense scratching of the
ears & rubbing the head
on the ground.
Also a large amount
of dark cerumen
(Ear wax)
The yellow arrow
is pointing to
ear mite eggs

How are they
diagnosed:
The doctor will examine
the ears & take a swab
of the debris.
It is examined under
the microscope to look
for the adult mites
or eggs.

How are they treated:
First the ears are
flushed out of all
the ear mite debris.
The kitty is started on a
once a month topical
protection called
"Revolution".
