The treatment for Kidney Disease
 varies depending on how much
 the disease has progressed.
If the kidney blood values are very high
 then IV fluids are the
 treatment of choice.
 However, if the values are
 just mildly elevated, the owner
can learn to give Subcutaneous Fluids
 at home.

 Meet Jake.
He is one of our kidney patients.
 He is going to demostrate
 what it is like getting
 subcutaneous fluids
 for the treatment of
 chronic renal failure.
 When Jake comes in for
 treatment, he always gets
 weighed first.

 Jake getting his fluids.
He is always a good boy
and doesn't seem to mind the
 needle poke. Administering fluids
will help flush out the nitrogenous
 wastes from the bloodstream.

Jake always loves his scratches &
pets while he receives his fluids.
Notice the lump of fluids that forms
under the skin. This will be absorbed
 by the body.
We will also give vitamins &
 medication to settle an
 upset tummy.
 Jake wants to let
 all the kidney cats out
 there know that it is
a piece of cake getting fluids
& it makes you feel much better.
